Range rover vogue 13inch android screen install guide

The 13.3-inch floating Android screen is one of the most transformative upgrades available for the Range Rover Vogue L405 and Sport L494 (2013–2022). In a single afternoon it replaces the factory infotainment system with a large-format, high-resolution touchscreen running Android — complete with wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, built-in navigation, Bluetooth 5.0, and a DSP audio processor that transforms the cabin sound quality.

The result looks like it was designed by Land Rover for the car. The floating screen format mirrors what the L460 generation introduced in 2022 — and for owners of 2013–2022 models, it closes that visual and functional gap completely.

What you'll need for installation

Tools required

·         Plastic trim removal tool set — essential for safely releasing dashboard panels without scratching

·         Torx T20 and T25 screwdrivers or bits — for dashboard fixings and screen bracket screws

·         Flat-head screwdriver (wrapped in tape) — for any stubborn connector clips

·         Panel gap tool / spudger — for releasing the centre console surround cleanly

·         Microfibre cloths — protect leather and veneer surfaces throughout

·         Phone or head torch — invaluable when connecting wiring behind the dashboard

·         Zip ties or cable tidies — for routing and securing wiring neatly

Installation time: Allow a full afternoon — typically 2 to 4 hours depending on experience. This is a more involved installation than the climate screen upgrade. Professional installation by a car audio specialist is recommended if you're not experienced with dashboard trim removal. Call us on +44 203 943 9919 if you'd like a recommendation in your area.

Step-by-step installation overview

This guide covers the key stages of the installation. A full video walkthrough is also available — details are included with your screen in the box.

1

Disconnect the battery

Before removing any dashboard trim or wiring, disconnect the negative terminal of the battery and wait at least 10 minutes. This is essential — the L405 and L494 have multiple airbag sensors behind the dashboard that will trigger if disturbed with the battery connected. This is a non-negotiable safety step.

2

Remove the centre console surround

Using your plastic trim tools, carefully release the centre console surround that frames the existing infotainment screen and climate controls. On the L405 and L494, this panel is retained by a combination of clips and screws — consult the video guide included in your box for the exact locations specific to your model year. Work from the edges inward and keep all clips and screws in a labelled container.

3

Remove the factory head unit

With the surround removed, the factory head unit is accessible. It is secured by brackets at each side — remove the bracket screws and slide the unit forward. Disconnect all wiring connectors at the rear of the unit carefully, pressing each release tab fully before pulling. Label each connector with tape as you go — this makes reassembly significantly faster and eliminates any risk of confusion.

4

Connect the Victorious wiring harness

The installation kit includes a purpose-built wiring harness that connects between your vehicle's existing connectors and the new screen. This harness is the key to the clean, factory-quality installation — it means no cutting of original wiring. Connect the harness to each of the factory connectors you disconnected from the old head unit. The connectors are keyed and can only go together the correct way.

5

Mount the new screen bracket

The installation kit includes a custom bracket that mounts in the original head unit aperture and supports the 13.3-inch floating screen at the correct height and angle. Fit the bracket into the aperture using the provided screws. Before tightening fully, offer the screen up to the bracket to check the position — the screen should sit level and centred in the dashboard. Adjust if needed, then tighten the bracket fully.

6

Connect the screen and route the wiring

Connect the screen to the wiring harness. Take time at this stage to route the cables neatly behind the dashboard — use zip ties to secure the loom away from any moving parts or heat sources. Untidy wiring is the most common source of rattles on tech upgrades, so 10 minutes of careful cable management here saves significant frustration later.

7

Reconnect the battery and test

Before reassembling any trim, reconnect the battery and power the system on. The screen should boot into the Android interface within 30–45 seconds. Test the following before proceeding: touchscreen response across the full display, climate controls on-screen, audio output through all speakers, steering wheel controls, CarPlay pairing (connect your phone via Bluetooth, then open CarPlay). If anything is unresponsive, check all connectors are fully seated before reassembling.

Test everything before reassembly. This is the most important principle of any head unit installation. Reassembling trim panels before confirming full functionality means removing them again if there's an issue — which adds significant time to the job.

8

Refit the trim panels

With full functionality confirmed, refit the centre console surround and any other trim panels removed during installation. Start from the innermost panels and work outward. Press each clip home with firm, even pressure and check for gaps around the perimeter of each panel before moving on. The finished result should be completely seamless — the 13.3-inch screen looks as though it was designed for the car from the factory.

First-time setup: getting the most from your new screen

Wireless Apple CarPlay

On first use, go to Settings → CarPlay on the Android screen and enable wireless CarPlay. On your iPhone, ensure Bluetooth and WiFi are both on. The pairing is automatic on first connection and persistent thereafter — from the second use onwards, CarPlay launches automatically the moment you start the car.

Wireless Android Auto

Open the Android Auto app on your Android phone, ensure Bluetooth is enabled, and follow the on-screen pairing prompt on the new screen. As with CarPlay, subsequent connections are automatic.

Climate control

Your Range Rover's original climate control system continues to operate normally — the temperature settings, fan speed, seat heating, and any other climate functions now display and are controllable directly on the touchscreen. The original climate panel buttons (if your model has physical controls) continue to function alongside the screen.

Steering wheel controls

Steering wheel audio controls are retained and work with the new screen out of the box. Volume, track skip, and call answer/end all function exactly as before.

Sound quality

The DSP (Digital Signal Processor) chip included in the screen gives you access to equaliser settings, balance, fader, and speaker-level adjustments that the factory system does not offer. Take 10 minutes to tune the audio settings to your preference — most owners find the default settings are already a significant improvement over the factory system, with further gains available through the DSP menu.

Common questions

Does the factory Meridian system still work?

Yes. The new screen connects via the existing factory audio system wiring, so your Meridian speakers and amplifier continue to operate. The DSP chip in the new screen works alongside the Meridian system to deliver improved audio processing.

Will my reversing camera still work?

Yes. The reversing camera feed is retained and displays automatically on the new screen when reverse gear is selected, exactly as with the factory system.

Does it need coding at the dealer?

No dealer visit or coding is required. The screen connects via the existing wiring harness and is recognised by the vehicle's systems automatically on first startup.
